Herbert West is (almost) a perfect Ayn Rand hero

(Except for that one time he killed a guy.) Otherwise, he’s blond, blue-eyed, never expresses emotion, lacks empathy, butts heads with those who refuse to see his brilliance, dismissive of mysticism and pursues scientific achievement for its own sake. Of course, HPL never describes him as tall or strong or describes his posture, but he doesn’t describe him as short or slumped either.

I’m speaking, of course, of West from the original HPL story, not the movie version. Jeffrey Combs would probably be too short and dark-haired to qualify as a Rand ideal. This is not intended as a slight on Combs, as he totally kills (pun not intended) in the role.
